workshop is for managers who need to carry out recruitment
and selection interviews. Recruiting the right people is a
costly business and needs skill and careful planning.
Managers are expected to make a decision about someone’s
potential to carry out a job in a short time frame. It is
therefore essential that interviewers have the skills to
carry out the interview professionally and are able to make
a properly informed decision.
This workshop will help them develop an approach that is
productive; structured and fair that will identify the best
candidate.
Content
The workshop is interactive and will provide
opportunities for delegates to practice their interviewing
skills. Through trainer input, group discussion, practical
exercises and mock interviews we will cover:
- Why doing it right matters.
- Preparing for a competency based interview.
- Types of interview, e.g. panel; one to one;
telephone – roles and responsibilities.
- Structuring an interview.
- Using a job description and person specification.
- Settling the candidate in – inc, developing rapport;
creating an appropriate atmosphere; opening and closing
the interview.
- Encouraging the candidate to talk.
- Asking appropriate questions and probing for more
information.
- Listening.
- Equalities and Diversity issues.
- Looking for specialist/technical skills as well as
broader skills.
- Selecting the right candidate – balanced and
objective assessment.
- Practicing the art of interviewing.
- Giving unsuccessful candidates feedback.
