Kamaljeet Jandu
 

After a distinguished career as Head of Diversity for Ford and Racial Equality Commissioner Kamaljeet Jandu joins pdp.

Kamaljeet was responsible for turning around Ford of Britain from a company that was vilified in the press for race discrimination, experiencing litigation, to one, which is now recognised as best in class and highly commended. This was achieved by ensuring that the trade union organisation was central to the organisational culture change needed.

As the National Diversity Manager for Ford of Britain he led the delivery of a Diversity Equality Assessment Review, the development of action plans for change and the establishment of a network of Diversity Councils in all Ford of Britain locations. He coordinated the development and implementation of a new Dignity at Work policy, improved the recruitment and selection processes and deployed a national diversity-training programme

Before joining Ford, he was employed as a policy development officer with the Trade Union Congress, where he was responsible for the development of policy on race equality and employment. He was instrumental in ensuring trade union support for the Stephen Lawrence Family Campaign. Before joining the TUC he was a researcher with the Transport and General Workers Union responsible for Race Equality, Local Government and Social Justice.

Kamaljeet is a Commissioner with the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE) and chairs the London Board of the CRE, where he is driving the work of the Board to ensure that 'anti poverty and equality ' are central to the major regeneration programmes including the Olympics, Thames Gateway and Terminal 5.He was a nominated Commissioner on the Formal investigation in to the Prison Service and was involved in the work on the implementation of the General Duty, Race Equality Schemes and Race Equality impact Assessments.

Kamaljeet is an Economist by training and has numerous publications on diversity and race to his credit. He was the European TUC representative on the European Commission Economic and Social Affairs Committee working on the Equal Treatment Directive and on the advisory panel to the Fourth National Survey on Ethnic Minorities.

Kamaljeet now leads pdp on all diversity issues.
