Overview
For many people, writing reports is right up there with
presenting in the terror stakes. If you’re one of them, you
might be worried about how to structure your report. Or
maybe you’re concerned that your grammar and punctuation
won’t be up to the task.
Relax. A Report Writing workshop from the experts at indiquo
will take you through the process of structuring and writing
your reports step-by-step. You’ll build confidence and
develop the skills that will give you real influence over
your reader and convince them of the merits of your case.
Report Writing is an entertaining and educational workshop
that caters for around 12 delegates giving you great
personal attention. And, because it’s delivered on site at
your own premises, the course can easily be adapted to your
organisation’s specific needs.
The one- or two-day workshop is designed for people with
some experience of writing for business purposes who now
need to develop report-writing skills. It’s great for you if
you’re in middle management and need to write reports, or if
you just think you might need to do so soon. Or even if
you’ve been writing reports and need a refresher. Maybe
you’ve had your annual appraisal and it’s come up as a need.
Whatever your situation, Report Writing will raise your
game.
Content
You’ll be involved from the start. This isn’t chalk and
talk. Our experienced trainers will get you stuck in to fun,
entertaining exercises that bring the subject to life, right
from the off. There are practical exercises with an
entertaining angle, group discussion and the chance to work
on documents that come straight from your own in-tray. In
brief, you’ll cover:
•
Establishing clear objectives for a report
• Planning the stages for the preparation of the report
• Tailoring your writing for your readers' needs
• Style and presentation
• Grammar and punctuation
• Editing and proofreading
• Following and/or adapting a recognised and helpful
structure
• Distinguishing between facts, conclusions and
recommendations
• Using an accurate, clear and brief writing style -
following plain English guidelines.
You’ll find
yourself writing a report at the start of the day and
rewriting it as the course unfolds and your expertise
increases and your confidence grows. In between, you’ll take
part in case studies with a thick vein of humour that’ll
keep you engaged, involved and in full-on learning mode.
Many of our delegates feel enlightened when they understand
the importance of planning, of putting themselves in the
reader’s shoes, and of establishing clear terms of
reference. Then, at the end of the day, you’ll feel that all
the mind-mapping, brainstorming, flipcharts, individual
attention and practical exercises have been worthwhile.
Because you’ll glow with a new-found confidence.
Outcomes
The clear difference between indiquo’s Report Writing
workshop and similar courses is that the learning continues
when the door to the training room shuts. You’ll take away
much more than just a certificate. You’ll get a sense of
respect and responsibility for your own learning, which we
encourage by giving you your own coaching partnership.
You’ll understand clearly the role of preparation in report
writing and the vital importance of writing from the
reader’s perspective. Many of our delegates describe as
cathartic the ability to learn about terms of reference and
go back to their managers and agree them.
Report Writing is a course that goes beyond the writing of
reports into the heart of business, touching on staff
development, project management and organisational
communications.
You’ll emerge more confident, less stressed and with a
clearer idea of the objectives of report writing. In short,
armed with a new belief, you’ll be itching to put your fresh
ideas into practice and write reports that make a genuine
difference.
